Historically, interlocking stirrer designs were quite popular. As of July 1, 2021, the use of non-biodegradable, single-use plastic coffee stirrers has been banned in Beijing's food and beverage industry; Canada banned the manufacture, import, and sale of single-use plastic stirrers starting December 20, 2022, with plans for a total ban on their manufacture, import, and export by December 20, 2025.
Georgia will ban the production and import of single-use plastic tableware-including plastic stirrers-starting January 1, 2026, and will prohibit the sale of these products beginning April 1, 2026.
